\nTwo more from the 20-minute x 6-pose croquis session of November 12.<\/p>\n

Though it is quite coarse thanks to the time limit of 20 minutes, the “traditional” one (above) does depict some shadows of the body. Needless to say, these shadows indicate there is a floor just beneath the model. And at drawing classes, many are often told to make some shadows to suggest the floor. Of course, such shadows make the 3D depiction clearer.
\nNow, if shadows have to be drawn to suggest the floor in the “background,” which is supposed be “empty space,” why does the “space” just beneath the body have to be a “floor,” while the rest of the surrounding space is supposed to be “empty”??<\/p>\n

After all, is there such a thing as “empty space”?? What seems to be empty space is actually penetrated by magnetic and gravitational fields. And all the matter of our universe was created ex nihilo.<\/p>\n

Then, why not draw an object and the space surrounding it as a sort of unity??<\/p>\n
