\nIn the painting terminology, we call it a “support”.
\nThe support of an oil painting can be canvas, wooden panel, or a card board.
\nIn case of a soft\/oil\/wax pastel painting, the support is usually paper.<\/p>\n

And the support matters!
\nSee the detail photo above, and know that I tried everything to
\nspread the applied oil pastel evenly on the paper surface.
\nAlas, nothing worked, and a closer look at the surface revealed that
\nthe paper surface itself is uneven!
\nAnd the paper is of poor quality.<\/p>\n

I tried this cheap paper simply to see how actually usable it is, and
\nwhat I have found is that it is not usable with pastels.<\/p>\n

So, artists, please be careful with some cheap paper!<\/p>\n
