The “classical” oil painting (thin layers over and over again) takes time, especially when the motif is the tears of the oppressed —
I’m still working on Weeping Face, which is growing even more painful.
Some might say, “Why not use more impasts, to depict tears and pains??”
Well, as reported from many leading museums of the world, heavily impasted paintings develop cracks, with some impasts falling off —
Thus, painters need to come up with a methodology that produces long-lasting paintings and can still show pains and tears. In my case, with this one, I am trying the classical oil painting methodology on acid-free carton.

油彩の古典描法は、薄い絵の具の層を何度も塗り重ねるもので、大変時間がかかります。モチーフが弾圧されている人たちの涙というような深刻なものであれば、なおさらです。
Weeping Face、制作はまだ続いております。さらに痛々しくなっています。
人によっては、「涙や苦痛を表すのなら、厚塗りを重ねたほうが効果的じゃないの？？」とおっしゃるでしょう。
でも、世界の代表的な美術館からの話を聞く限り、厚塗りを重ねた絵画は、日々が発生しやすく、また厚塗りの絵の具が落ちたりして、保存状態が良くないそうです。
ですから、長く保存できて、しかも苦痛や涙を表現できるような描法を考えませんと。私の場合ここでは、中性紙のカートンに油彩の古典描法という試行をしているわけですね。

Here is a shot of the other side, of the model hand wearing the 6-heart bracelet below.
To stabilize this bracelet around your wrist, just “tuck in” the “pink tail” between the wrist and the bracelet. as shown here.  Do so twice or thrice, and the bracelet does not fall off the wrist — after I rode my bike some 7 miles with the bracelet around my left wrist, it was safely there.

こちらは、下の手のモデルの反対側です。
手首でこのブレスレットを安定させるには、「ピンクのテール」を手首とブレスレット本体の間に通して、ブレスレットに2~3回巻きつけます。そうすると、ブレスレットは手首から落ちません。
実際、これを左手首にして、自転車に11㎞ほど乗ってみたのですが、しっかりと手首に付いたままでした。

2> 手首の周りにまで来たら —

引っ張って、直径を小さくします。

4> ピンクのしっぽ部分を、手首とブレスレットの間に挟み込みます。
これを、2~3回やってください。.

OK, the 6-heart bracelet is done.
Here’s how to put it on — click each photo to enlarge.

1> Maximize the diameter of the bracelet,

and enter your hand in it.

2> When it comes around the wrist, —

3> — pull the “pink tail” to narrow
down the diameter.

4> “Tuck” the pink tail between the wrist
and the bracelet, two or three times.

I’ll show you how the bracelet looks once it’s worn around the wrist, tomorrow.

この作品自体は、実はヨルダンにいる私の「娘」に送るのですが、これをサンプルとして、ご注文も承ります。
ご注文の場合：
・天然石なしなら、1個￥3,000程度 （送料込）になります。

I’m working on a bracelet featuring the six hearts shown below, in my post dated March 12.
This work itself, I mean to send to my “daughter” in Jordan.
Still, in case you want something like that, I’m ready to take orders for similar bracelets, necklaces, etc.

To make an order:
– Without a semi-precious stone, a similar work costs somewhere around JPY3,000, including the shipment. (Please place an order for two or more, since the bank charges transfer commission of some JPY4,000 !)
– Please let me know the circumference of your wrist, either in cm or inch, if you want a bracelet.
– Please let me know what colors you want, the size(s) of the hearts you would like, etc. (Remember, this is custom-made.)

6-heart bracelet in the making

Singing G.F. Handel’s “Lascia Ch’io Pianga,” I worked further on this painting, and I think it’s more painful now. I have some more way to go before getting it done.
In “Weeping Face,”  I am trying to paint a face that cannot even shout for peace, liberation, justice, etc., even though the face definitely yearns for them.
As you know, oppression / persecution often tries to silence the victims —
Obviously, they deserve to shout out, yet it requires the world’s intention to listen to them — before they shout out.

… 痛々しくなりました。GF Handel のアリア “Lascia Ch’io Pianga” を歌いながら描いているうちに、さらに痛々しさが増したと思います。まだ、完成ではありません。
この “Weeping Face”  では、平和や解放、公正を渇望しながらも、それを叫ぶこともできない「顔」を描こうとしております。
ご存じのとおり、弾圧や迫害というものは、犠牲者に沈黙を強いるものです。
犠牲者に叫ぶ権利があることは明らかなのですが、実際に叫ぶには、彼らが叫ぶ前から、世界が彼らの叫びに聞き入ろうとする決意が求められます。

So, I’ve made six of the heart below in all — in the coming several days, I’ll make a “joky” (size-adjustable) bracelet featuring all of the six.
