“Complacency” / （自己満足）

Merriam-Webster defines “complacency” as
“self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of
actual dangers or deficiencies”.
This was precisely the attitude of many national leaders of Japan
as they faced the emerging COVID-19 crisis, back in February.
So, in March, I made this oil pastel painting.

complacency という英語は、辞書的には「自己満足」と
翻訳されていますが、英語圏で広く使われているWebsterという
辞書によれば、
「自己満足、特に実際にある危険や問題を認識していない場合」
とあります。
これはまさに、2月時点で多くの日本の指導者たちが示していた
態度ですよね。
そこで3月に、本作品を描きました。オイルパステルです。
