εικωνοκλασμα (iconoclasm) is within the contemporary vocabulary. But looking into the original Greek, we see this is an attitude and action with icons, which were to venerated, as the Nicaea II determined.
Now, this means icons are to be separated from ειδωλον (eidolon, idol). So, I coined a new term, ειδωλοκλασμα, to indicate “idols that are truly idols”. Such idols are not images or pictures, but are constructs of the mind, for instance worship of an organization, status, wealth, etc.
Depictions of such idols require, by their very nature, some “abstract” renditions.

εικωνοκλασμα (イコノクラスマ) という言葉は、現在のヴォキャブラリーにありますよね。でも元のギリシャ語を考えると、これはイコンという画像に対する態度や行為のことでして、イコンを使うことは尊重さるべきですね。第二ニケーヤ公会議で決めた通りです。
つまり、イコンは ειδωλον (eidolon、偶像) とは区別すべきだ、と。 そこで、私は ειδωλοκλασμα という造語を考えました。「本当に偶像である偶像」を問題にした造語です。本当の偶像とは絵画や画像ではなく、精神の形成物です。たとえば、何らかの組織体やステータス、富の崇拝などですね。
そうした「偶像」を描くには、その性質上、「抽象的な」画面が必要になります。
