So, with the “uncontrollable medium” shown just below, I made
six croquis at the Jan. 12 croquis session — 20 minutes each.
On this particular day, I had to overcome another difficulty —
over-congestion! Usually, the upper limit of the artists enlisted
is 25 at this croquis session, but I guess by an office error or something,
more than 30 artists were there!
Being a good Christian guy, I gave my seat over to a latecomer and
put myself on the floor.
Now, the toughest poses to draw when you are positioned on the floor are,
needless to say, when the model is lying on the floor.
Usually, I stand up and draw on my feet when the model is “flat on the floor.”
(;; >_<) “> In an overcrowded studio like this, alas, my standing up would have
disabled some artists behind me from drawing!
So, the floor manager was at a loss. So was I — for a moment.
I threw myself on the floor and began drawing with the left side of
my body flat on the floor. (I’m right-handed.)
I found myself able to draw that way, and gave the floor manager thumbs-up.

When I got up after drawing flat on the floor, I knew very well that
“there are upside and downside in this world”!!! I know this sounds absurd,
but try such drawing yourself, and you’ll see that gravity really affects
our perceptions of this world!

で、下の1月12日に紹介した「制御不能な画材」を使って、同日のクロッキー会では
6ポーズを描きました。いずれも、それぞれ20分です。
ところが。この日に限って、別の問題も発生していました。
スタジオが定員越えしていたのです。本来なら1回のクロッキー会は
定員が25名までなのですが、この日は30名を超える人たちが集まっていました。
何か、事務上の手違いか何かがあったのかもしれませんね。
で、善良なキリスト教徒である私は、自分が座っていた座席を、遅れてきた方に譲りました。
自分は床の上に座って描くのです。
床に座っていると特に描きにくいのは、言うまでもないですが、モデルさんが
寝転がったポーズですよね。
混雑していない時には、モデルさんが寝転がっている時には、
私は立ち上がって描くのですが～～～
(;; >_<) “> この日のように定員越えしたスタジオでは、私が立ち上がってしまうと、
後ろの方々が描けなくなってしまいます！
そんなわけで、現場監督のマネジャーも途方に暮れ、私も一瞬、途方に暮れたのですが ・・・
私は床の上に、左半身を下に（私は手が右利きなので）して寝転がり、横から見たモデルさんを
描くことにしました。
そうすればなんとか描けるので、監督のマネジャーに「サムアップ」を示し、描き続けたのですね。
上に示したのは、そうやって「制御不能な画材を使い、床に寝転がって描いた」
20分クロッキー２枚です。（画像をクリックすれば、拡大します）
床に寝転んで描いてから起き上がると、「この世界には上と下というものがあるのだ」って
ことがよく分かりますよ！ アホなことを言っているようだけど、ご自分で「寝転がって描く」のを
実際に試してみれば、重力というものが我々の世界認識に影響していることが
実感できます。
