When you are busy painting on clothes and creating scratches for new paintings, it can be hard to find time for “basic” drawing, something a painter must not ignore.
So, I walked to a neighborhood park, which hosts a large pond.
But what object is there upon a pond, except for some row boats??
Here is one example. The neighborhood pond has a rather unusual sculpture on it. 5 yard high or so, the carved stone is named “Sei-i” in Japanese, which means “sacred clothes, shroud”.
Since this was only a drawing exercise, I drew it on a blanc space in my croquis book. The empty space was surrounded by sketches of, well, a lunch container, fried potatoes, etc. — I was asked to draw these on signboards at a charity restaurant for children in need.
So, the end result of drawing the enigmatic sculpture is this further enigmatic drawing mess!

衣類にペイントしたり自作のスクラッチを描いたりしている間、基本的なデッサンをする時間を見つけるのが大変困難だったりします。でも、絵描きである以上、基本デッサンを無視するわけにはまいりません。
そこで近所の公園にある池にまで歩いていったのでした。
でも、池の上に何があるというのでしょうか？？ボート以外に。あるんです、このスケッチに示す通りのものが。
この公園の池にはこの風変わりな彫刻が設置されています。高さ4.5m程度で、「聖衣」という名前でした。
これは単なるデッサン練習だったので、クロッキーブックの空いていた余白に描きました。その余白の周囲には、フライドポテトだのお弁当箱だののスケッチがありますよね。「こども食堂」で看板にそれらを描くよう、依頼されたのですね。
そんなわけで、この風変わりな彫刻のデッサンの結果は、それ以上に風変わりなものになったのでした。
