First scratch / 最初のスクラッチ
It is scratchy, because it is a scratch! / スクラッチですから、スクラッチ―（荒っぽくザっと描いたもの）です！
Clothes is an interesting “support” (the thing to which paints, pastel pigments, etc. are applied — canvas, paper, wooden board, etc.), since it also functions as a medium to carry a message, for instance “No Nukes”.
So, I’ll keep on painting on clothes in the years to come, while I now resume painting / drawing on paper, canvas, etc. as well.
Here is a first sketch as I take back drawing paper.
Most artists do not show their “first scratches,” which are usually crude, coarse, and rough.
But I’m an exception. I without hesitation show how my concept, thinking, inspiration, etc. develop.
So, here is a first scratch for a new oil pastel painting on paper.
The inspiration came from some young ladies wearing a mask — a very mediocre sight these days worldwide — but their smiles were hiding anxieties and fear. You know what they were afraid of, with the world being as it is today.
That gave me this first scratch, which is coarse and crude. I’ll show you how I develop it in the weeks to come.

衣類というのも、面白い「サポート」（絵具やパステルの顔料などを塗り付ける物体のこと。カンヴァスや紙、木の板などなど）ですよね。衣類なら、たとえばNo Nukesといったメッセージを運ぶメディアにもなりますので。
ですから今後も、衣類へのペイントは続けてまいります。ただ、同時に紙やカンヴァスなどなどへの描画も再開します。
で、紙に描くことを再開するにあたっての最初のスクラッチが、こちら。
たいていの絵描きは、こうした荒っぽくて未洗練の「最初のスクラッチ」を公開はしないものです。
でも私は例外で、自分の考えやコンセプト、インスピレーションなどがどう発展していくのかを、ためらいなく人に見せます。
そんなわけで、新たなオイルパステル絵画のための最初のスクラッチをここで公開しますね。
このインスピレーションは、若い女性の皆さんがマスクを着用してらっしゃるシーンから来たものです。現在、世界のどこでもありふれた光景ですよね。でも、彼女らのスマイルの下には、不安や恐れが隠れているのです。何に対する不安なのかは、現在の世界の状況を見れば、言うまでもないですよね。
そういうわけで、この最初のスクラッチが出来ました。もちろん、まだ練り直しが必要な荒っぽいものです。今後何週間か、その発展の様子を紹介してまいります。
