Hey, what —!?!?
Don’t worry, this is just a scratch —for another birthday card
commissioned.
The recipient’s birthday flower is Lythrum anceps, a species
native to Korea and Japan,
but over here in Japan, it is a flower commonly offered to graves!
So, I switched to a relative species, Lythrum salicaria, the purple
flowers  you can find in grass fields of the US and Canada.
There, no one associates the flower with graves.

Behind my scratches lie researches and thinking like this.

なんだよ、こりゃ！
ご心配なく、スクラッチです。また、バースデイカードの
絵を描く依頼を受けまして、そのための下絵。
このカードの受け取り手の誕生日が９月６日なのですが、
その誕生花というとLythrum ancepsなのですね。
ところが！ 日本ではこの花、よく仏壇とかお墓に備える
花ですよね。
困ったので、近縁種のLythrum salicariaにしました。
こちらはお墓や埋葬と関係なく、北米の草原でよく見かける
紫の花です。

スクラッチをまとめるまでに、こうした調査や思考が
あるわけですね。

Scratch for a birthday card / バースデイカードのスクラッチ

I’m not a cartoonist, so I avoid drawing cartoons as far as I can.
Still, once in a while my other website, an anti-nuke site
written in Japanese, once in a while requires cartoons, rather than
“serious” art paintings.
Now I’ve been working on a very long page of that anti-nuke website,
and here is ones of the many cartoons I’ve made for the page.
I know it’s not good, but didn’t I say I’m NOT a cartoonist?

漫画は苦手です！ 可能な限り、漫画は描きません。
それでも、私のもう１つのウェブサイト、「やかんをのせたら～～～」
であーとぽい絵画よりも漫画が必要になる場合があります。
目下、「やかんをのせたら～～」のかなり長いページを
作成中でして、そのために描いた漫画の１つを下に。
ぎこちない漫画なのは分かっておりますが、私は漫画家では
ございません！

Stage 2 of the “curvism” exercise shown below on Aug. 7.
Based on Croquis Cafe Special Thursday Edition, this
“curvism” exercise attempts to bring together the model
and the surrounding space.
The work goes on.

下の８月７日の「曲線描」練習、ステージ２です。
Croquis Cafe Special Thursday Editionをベースに、
この曲線描練習ではモデルさんと周囲の空間とを
有機的に結び付けようとしています。
まだ、作業は続きます。

I’m sure was unintelligible. Well, that’s what it was —
just a scratch.
Here, I’ve progressed to Stage 1.
