Another absurd cartoon to my other website / 「やかんをのせたら～～」の漫画

As you know, Russia has decided to postpone
its participation in the new START — Looks like
our world is once again in an age of heightened
nuclear threats.
We are facing the Doomsday Clock that shows 90
seconds to go.

This means I’m busy with my anti-nuke website,
which is written in Japanese to inform Jp readers
of the inseparability between nuclear weapons and power.

The latest webpage I uploaded discusses irrationality in
France’s early deployment of nukes.
Now, though the webpage is “damn serious”, I wouldn’t
want to bore the readers with stern-faced text only.
So, the anti-nuke website needs some silly cartoons —
you know, nukes are one of the most absurd stupidities
we, humans, have invented.

Shown here is such a cartoon. I know it’s clumsy
and silly, but I’m NOT A CARTOON ARTIST.
It shows over-reliance on new technology ruining
that very technology.

ロシアが、新たなSTARTの履行を延期するって
言い出しましたよね。我々の世界は、またもや
核の緊張の中で暮らす場所になったようです。
世界終末時計も、90秒前を指していますし。

私のもう1つのウェブサイト、「やかんをのせたら～～」
は、当然そうした核情勢に反応するので、
このところ「やかんをのせたら～～」の
ページ作成で多忙です。

一番最近アップロードしたページの挿絵の1つを
ここに。実に不器用でバカバカしい漫画ですが、
私は漫画アーティストではないので。
新技術をあてにしすぎると、その新技術自体をも
ダメにしてしまうことが ・・・ という漫画ですね。

How far is safe?? / どれだけ離れれば、「安全」なの？

Yet another absurd cartoon for my other website —
an anti-nuke site written in Japanese.

Usually, a state conducting a nuke test claimed that
the authorities secured a “safe distance” between the test site
and the surrounding inhabited places.
But how far is a “safe distance”, especially wind directions are
something unpredictable to us humans??

To make this risk clear, I resorted to this ”class-less” cartoon.
IF the “fart” here were a nuclear explosion, well,
keep running, folks!!

お下劣ゴメン！

核実験をやらかした国は、実験場と周辺の居住者の
いた地域との間には「安全な距離を設けた」などと
よく主張しましたよね。
でも、いったいどれだけ離れれば 「安全」 なのでしょうか？？
特に、風向きなんてものは我々人間には正確には予想できない
ものなのに ・・・

そうしたリスクをわかりやすく提示するため、
このお下劣な漫画を描きました。
ここでの 「オナラ」 が、もし核爆発だったら ・・・
皆さん、走り続けて逃げましょう？？

“Taco-yaki” with Death Sauce — no thanks! / デスソース入りのたこ焼きって・・・

I know many want to see some “high art” paintings here,
but I occasionally need to make some really silly and clumsy
cartoons, though I’m not trained to create cartoons!
Sometimes, creating absurd cartoons leaves me no time
for “fine art” —

Why? I’ve been running another website, an anti-nuke
site targeted at Japanese readers.
The website carries some stuff on nuclear technology,
international relations, national defense, etc.
So, it calls for some cartoons made to what the corresponding
text says, rather than “high art” stuff.

In the example shown here, a “taco-yaki” shop is offering
some weird new kinds of the snack, including those
that contain a bit of “Death Sauce”!
To avoid a fiery tragedy in his/her mouth and body,
a customer needs to be told which one contains “Death”,
in the very beginning.
Without such foreknowledge, he/she can be doomed —

* “Taco-yaki” is a ball of shallow-fried flour containing
some ingredients, traditionally including a li’l piece of
boiled octopus. Yet nowadays, it can contain kimchi,
cheese, etc. Such balls are popular in Japan, especially
in Osaka, my birthplace.

この絵画サイトでは、たいていの皆様は「ファイン アート」
ぽい絵画を期待してらっしゃると思います。
でも。私のもう1つのサイト、「やかんをのせたら～～」
では、結構ややこしいテキストを多数取り上げているので、
話の中身に合わせた漫画が、必要になるんです。
私自身は漫画を描く訓練は受けておらず、漫画を描くと
不器用なのですがね。

ここに紹介している漫画では「デスソース」入りの
たこ焼きが ・・・ そんなもん、ホンマにあるかどうか
知りまへんけど、もしあったら ・・・
最初にどれがデスソース入りなのか教えてもらわん
ことには、うかつに食べたらドエライことになりまっせ！

物事は最初にはっきりさせておかないと、大惨事を
招く場合があるってことですね。
