This is Stage 3 after the restart. The photo below shows the whole but rather unreal colors. The scanner image of the upper half carries ccolors that are much closer to the real.
An “explanatory” illustration to my other website / 私のもう1つのウェブサイトに使う「説明」用イラスト
As I said before, I’m not trained to draw cartoons — still, my other website, a Japanese one spreading anti-nuke messages, requires some “explanatory” cartoons. The clumsy example shown here shows what MIRVs are, since some Japanese readers do not know what they are.
“Fine art” paintings have their place. Yet people do need something else as well, “explanatory illustrations”. These two should occupy different places. Yet either is superior or inferior to the other. Both serve necessary and different purposes.
As an artist basically trained in “fine art” painting, I often find much of “fine art” ignorant of social issues, though in reality nothing in the human society is 100% isolated from that society. Today, much of “contemporary art” is “political” and/or “deals with social issues”, as you know. If art intends to establish its own “freedom”, it needs to be well aware of what its social environment is doing to it. In the case of my anti-nuke website (written in Japanese), my clumsy “explanatory cartoons” are part of my effort to free the planet from nukes.
I’m back from my “second shot”, with no problem any more!
As shown here, “Comma Johanneum” is in progress — yet my poor camera is unable to capture its color subtleties. The scanned images below capture them better!
“Comma Johanneum”, started over, Stage 2 Photo above, scanned images below Wax pastel on paper
Dear friends, I am expected to take my second shot of an anti-COVID19 vaccine tomorrow, Monday. This means I might have to send the whole next day (Tuesday) resting, to get over some side-effects. In that case, I will not be able to post here this Monday, Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday. I’d appreciate your understanding in advance!
Back to St. Francis, and here is a scanner image. I think it is a lot better than easy photos, which fail to carry the smoothness –> tenderness of colors.
St. Francis with Birds, Stage 5 Oil pastel on paper
Way below on August 2, I abandoned a version of this made on poor-quality paper. Here, I’ve started it over, on better-quality paper, with wax pastel. You see, the smoothness of colors is way better. Why did it take so long to start this over?? Tokyo’s killing heat. It won’t let most people concentrate on anything.

Another “cartoon” to illustrate my other website, which is available in Japanese. It elaborates on the inseparability between nuclear power generation and weapons. I tried to create a single cartoon that stands for that inseparability. Alas, that was a tough job — I hope you see this one here somehow stands for that inseparability.
So, here is another “just cartoon” to illustrate my other website — but as many of you notice, it is inspired by Alexej von Jawlensky ! 私のもう1つのウェブサイト「やかんをのせたら~~」のための漫画をもう1つ。単なる漫画ですけど、ご察しのとおり、ヤウレンスキーから着想を得ています。
