I’ve just begun another “ugly” depiction of an ugly phenomenon in
our society.
Honestly, I wish I had no need to make another painting of an ugly social issue,
but the reality of our society never lets me rest with “lovely” paintings for long.
Art is certainly not an escape from but a way to look straight at the truth.

社会の現実が、そうはさせてくれません。
アートというのは決して現実逃避などではなく、真実を直視するための方法の
１つなのですね。

First scheme for “Emunah” — discarded / “Emunah” の最初の図案 ・・ 廃棄しました

I was reading a battle story of Exodus 17, the Amalekites vs the Israelites,
in which Joshua and Hur supported the arms of Moses. I found that
the original Hebrew for “steady” in v. 12 was “emunah”, which is often
translated “faith” elsewhere.

This Hebrew inspired me to create a new painting.
I thought over, and first came up with this —
— but I found it uninspiring and switched to another scheme, which I’ll
show you later.

出エジプト記の17章にあるアマレクVSイスラエルの戦闘の記述を読んでました。
ヨシュアとフルとがモーシェの量でを支えるというv. 12で、英語翻訳では
steadyと翻訳されている箇所の本来のヘブライ語が emunah であることを発見しました。
このヘブライ語は他の箇所では「信仰、信じること」などと翻訳されている場合も
よくあります。

このヘブライ語からインスピレーションを受けて、新しい作品を造り始めました。
あれこれ考えて、最初はこのような画像を考えていたのですが ・・・
どうも面白くないので、廃棄して他の画像に切り替えました。
そちらは、後日紹介しますね。

An intentionally “childish” depiction of Acts 2: 1-4 / 使徒言行録 2：1－4 の、「意図的に子供の絵のような」表現

So, here my depiction of Acts 2: 1-4 is done.
I honestly experienced some phenomena like this before,
and if an outsider coincidentally witnessed any of them,
he/she would have thought it was a collective panic  or something!
(I Cor. 14: 23)
So, I intended this depiction to be “naive and childish” — the essence
of such a phenomenon is not the behaviors of the “recipients of the fire”,
but the “dwelling of the fire”, i.e., “dwelling of the Spirit”.
I think a child-like depiction invites the viewers’ attention to that
essence more effectively than can a “realistic” depiction, which
tends to attract viewers’ attention to the painted details.

正直、似たような現象を私も以前に体験しているのですが、
外からふらっと誰かが入ってきたら、集団パニックか何かと
誤解されたことでしょう。
（第一コリント 14：23）
ですから、この作品は意図的に「子供の絵のような」感じにしています。
こうした現象の本質は、その人たちの行動にあるんじゃなくて、
「炎が宿った」つまり「スピリットの内在」にあるのです。
それに気づいてもらうには、いわゆる「リアルな」描き方にするよりも、
「子供ぽい」描写にした方が効果的だと考えるので。いわゆる「リアリズム」
だと、描かれているディテールに注意が向かってしまいやすいのですね。
