自分の klesis が現れると、それを懸命に、熱意を持って
追求することがよくあります。
でも、Klesis は生涯をかけて追及する使命。
ときどき、疲れますよね。適度に、休まないと。。

This painting went through Stages 3 and 4 actually, yet
here allow me to skip them and show you the finished state.

As I said below, when your “klesis” (calling) appears before you,
and once you have accepted it, you often burn with the longing
to carry it through.
Yet fulfilling your calling can take some time and hardships —
— so I start working on Piece 3 of this suite, “Rest”.

実は完成するまでにステージ３と４があったのですが、
スキップして完成状態を。

下の記事でも申しましたように、自分の klesis （召命）が
表れてそれを受け入れると、自分の召命を完遂したいという
熱望が湧きあがる場合もあります。
ただ、そのためにはかなりの時間と困難が伴うことも。
そこで、この連作のピース３は、”Rest” （休み）という
タイトルにしました。

As I said below, our world today is dead in the current pandemic.
I pray that God shows mercy on us and delivers us from the virus.
Also, we need some global plague control system to
prevent a future emergence of another pandemic.
May God grant us the wisdom to do so!

このウイルスからの解放を祈っております。
さらに、今後のパンデミックを防止するため、
何らかの世界規模の疫病対策システムも必要でしょう。

Here is its Stage 2 (some progress).

When your “klesis” emerges, it can make you feel like being torn apart.
Then, once you have accepted it, you can long for it to materialize.
You are now burning with enthusiasm.

“Klesis”（召命）が現れると、その人は引き裂かれたような体験をする場合があります。
そしてそのKlesisを受け入れると、その具体化を切望することもありますよね。
萌えるような切望。

“Contamination”, Stage 1 / ステージ1

I know well that many other artists over the world are
depicting, one way or another, the current pandemic.

With the oil pastel painting shown here, I am actually
not following them. In fact, I created the scratch for this
already back in February, when Japan’s government was
slow in counteracting the coming pandemic.
I predicted that it would invite a social panic.

Now, as you all see, that prediction has become a reality,
I’m afraid.
So, I’m developing that scratch into a painting — reluctantly.
I honestly wish the scratch had never been necessary.
(In other words, the government should have taken actions
a lot sooner!)

現在のパンデミックを何らかの形で取り上げているアーティストは、
世界中に多数いらっしゃると思います。

ここで紹介するオイルパステルの絵画も、そのパンデミックを取り上げているのですが、
他のアーティストの追随をしているわけじゃありません。実は、
この作品のためのスクラッチは既に2月には出来ていたのですね。
当時、日本の政府はこのパンデミックへの対応が遅れており、
そのため社会的騒ぎを招くだろうなあと、私には予感があったのです。

結局、今では誰もが知るように、予感のとおりになってしまいました。
というわけで、2月にまとめたスクラッチを絵にしております　・・・ したくなかったのですが。。
そのスクラッチは、不要になることを願っていたのですよ！
（言い換えれば、日本政府にはもっと早くから、しっかりと対応をして
ほしかったです！）

Actually, this painting went through Stages 3 and 4 before it was done,
but allow me to skip them and show you the finished state here.

As I said earlier, sometimes the shock you experience when your “klesis”
(Calling) suddenly reveals itself to you can feel like you are being torn apart —

実は完成する前に、ステージ3と4とがあったのですが、ここでは
省略して完成状態をお見せしますね。

以前にも申し上げたように、自分の klesis（召命）が突如として現れるとき、
自分が引き裂かれるかのような感触が走る場合があります。

Just a tech experiment with solid black embossed paper / 真っ黒なエンボス加工紙での、単なる技法的実験です

Nothing much. Just a 100-min technical experiment.
From a 100-min drawing session of March 22nd.

I wanted to test the “attachment” of oil pastel to a certain
type of paper surface.
This solid black paper had tiny ups and downs (embossed),
and the pressing made the surface somehow repellent to oil pastel.
The tiny embossments sort of “sucked” in some of the oil pastel applied,
and the colors applied faded away as I rubbed them with my fingertip —

I had to apply and rub colors twice. I came up with this painting,
and I would have to use “a brush and baby oil” to smoothen out
the colors, but I did not have them with me at the drawing session.

Most artists do not show an experiment like this in public,
but I do — so that those of you working with oil pastel
can be careful with their choices of paper!
Some papers are not good with oil pastel.

単なる、100分間での技法的実験です。
3月22日の100分デッサン会から。
ある種の紙での、オイルパステルの「付着」について、
試したかったのですね。

この真っ黒な紙の表面にはエンボスが施されていて、
そのプレス加工のためでしょう、表面にオイルパステルが付着しにくい
のです。
さらに、エンボス加工でできた小さなへこみが、何とか付着したオイルパステルを
「吸い込んで」しまうのでした。つまり、塗った色を指先で固着させようとすると、
消えるように褪せてしまう ・・・

同じ色を２回、塗って「擦り込み」をしないといけませんでした。
さらに色を滑らかにしたければ、「ブラシとベビーオイル」が必要でしたが、
それらはこのデッサン会には持参していなかったのです。

こうした実験は、たいていのアーティストは人前に晒さないものです。
でも私はお見せしているのは、オイルパステルを使う方々に、
「こういう紙には、注意が必要!」ということをお知らせするためですね。
オイルパステルには適さない紙もあるのです。

単なる、真っ黒なエンボス加工紙での技法的実験
この紙は、オイルパステルには適さないことを発見しました。
エンボス加工紙での、１００分間での実験です。
