On October 1st, I joined in another croquis (quick drawing) session.
As usual, 40 minutes x 6 poses in all. Here are two from the six.

Given the shape and size of the croquis book I had, there is some “empty space” in both.
In the “lying pose”, the space is almost meaningless — anyone can tell “huh, the shape of the book —”  (The enigmatic shade in the upper left is not anything I drew, but the scanner left it in the image. The original croquis does not have it.)

In the other, where the model is “seated on the floor”, the empty space creates some effects. It is suggestive there is something outside the croquis, to the left. (Again, the enigmatic shade in the upper left is not anything I drew, but the scanner left it in the image.)

IF I make a new drawing based on either of the two croquis here, I’ll have to consider how to make use of the “space.”

10月1日にも、クロッキー（速写画）会に行ってきました。
いつもどおり、20分 X 6ポーズです。

持っていたクロッキー帖のサイズと形状の関係で、いずれにも「何もない空間」があります。
「寝ているポーズ」の方では、その空間の意味が見えないですね。誰が見ても、「はあ、クロッキー帖の形状の関係で、上の方が空白なんだな」とお分かりになると思います。（左上の影は、私が描いたものじゃなくて、スキャナーが作ってしまったものです。元のクロッキーには、ありません）

もう一方の「床に座っている」ものでは、何もない空間が何らかの効果を出していますよね。クロッキー画面の外部、ずっと左側に、何かがあるような。（やはり、左上の影は、私が描いたものじゃなくて、スキャナーが作ってしまったものです）

このいずれかを基に作品を描く場合があれば、こうした「空間」をどう活かすか、良く検討しないといけないですね。

It’s a new addition to my “Argument X” series and titled
“Argument IV — Conclusion”.

（日本語）  同じモデルさん、床に横たわる似たようなポーズ、でも違うアングルだと ・・・

On September 17, I joined in another croquis (quick drawing) session.
As always, 6 poses, 20 minutes each.
Twice the model lay on the ground, as shown here.

You know, when drawing a model lying on the floor, it’s easier for the artist to stand on his/her feet. (When you bowl and you have the 10th pin standing alone, you move yourself to the left, if you are a righthander, right? It’s usually easier to draw the “object” with a broader range of angles.)
So, in the 20-min drawing below with the caption saying “From above”, I followed this usual way. It was easy, just ”business as usual”.

In the other croquis below, “Very low the floor”, I tried drawing with my bottom half on the ground — from a very low angle. This was, needless to say, quite unusual and, I say, really tough!

You see, when drawing a human model, it is crucial to choose the right position and posture. So, very often I seat myself on the floor or even stand up on a chair, in response to the model’s pose.

9月17日もクロッキー（速写画）会があって、参加してきました。
いつもどおり、20分ずつ６ポーズです。
2ポーズは、モデルさんが床に横たわるポーズでした。

お分かりのとおり、床に横たわったモデルさんを描く場合には、描く人は立った方が描きやすいです。（ボウリングで、10ピンだけが残った時、右投げの人なら投げる位置を左に移しますよね。対象を描く場合、できるだけ広い角度のレンジで対象を捉えられた方が、描きやすいのです）
そこで、下の20分クロッキーでも、「上から」とあるほうでは、「いつもどおり」に「上方から」描きました。

下のもう1つのクロッキー、「床に近い低い視点から」のほうでは、通例を破って床に近い、極めて低い視点から描いてみました。極めて異例で、そりゃもう難しかったです。

こんなわけで、人体モデルを描く場合には、適切な位置と姿勢で描くことは極めて大切ですね。そのため私は、モデルさんのポーズに応じて、床に座ったり、椅子の上に立ったりして描く場合がよくあります。

Now, I’m working on six new paintings.
As usual, I begin with scratches, and here is one of them.
I think I’ll just simply title it “Out There.”
Probably, it’s going to be another marker-on-paper (PITT).
Needless to say, the actual painting can differ significantly from the scratch.
You know, a scratch is just a scratch, after all.

これは、単純に Out There （かの地に）というタイトルにしようかなと。
おそらくこれは、また紙にマーカー（PITT) の作品となりそうです。
言うまでもありませんが、実際の作品はスクラッチとはかなり異なるものになるかも。
スクラッチというのは、あくまでスクラッチに過ぎませんのでね。
