Yet another 20-min croquis (quick drawing) from August 13 —
OK, some of you might say, “Hey, the model’s buttocks are too small, with her legs too short.”
In fact, this croquis is correct in both.
The model was a very lean lady, and with this angle, her buttocks were around this size, I swear.
About the leg lengths, just pose like she does before a big, horizontal mirror! You’ll see —

What your senses remember about the ratios of human body segments are not necessarily realistic!

やはり8月13日のクロッキーをもう1つ。
おそらく、一部の皆様は仰ることでしょう、「モデルさんのお尻が小さすぎる、脚が短すぎる」
実は、このクロッキーはお尻も脚も、正確なんです。
まず、このモデルさん、かなりやせた女性でしたので、この角度で見ると、お尻のサイズはこの程度でした。
それから脚の長さは、ご自分で実際のこのポーズを取って、水平に置いた大きな鏡でご覧になってみてください。このクロッキーのサイズの正しさが、お分かりいただけるはずです。

つまり。感覚がおぼえているサイズや比率は、実は現実から離れている場合があるわけですね。

I joined in another croquis (quick drawing) session on August 13, and here is one from the 20-minute croquis I made there — nothing much.
Well, the model was wearing two “hair buns” on her head and was holding one of them while she was posing. I found these hair buns quite tough to draw in just 20 minutes —- it’s hard to tell from the drawing whether she was wearing some ornaments or hair buns!!

8月13日もクロッキー（速写画）会があって、行ってきました。そこで描いた20分クロッキーの中から、１つ。それだけのことなのですが ・・・
モデルさんが実は「ヘアー団子」を２つ、頭に作ってらして、ポーズ中には片手でその1つをつかんでらっしゃったのですね。この「ヘアー団子」が、実は20分では描きにくかったです！何か髪飾りなのか、それともヘアー団子なのか？？それが、20分クロッキーからは分かりずらいですね！

Below, on August 5th, I showed three scratches for a coming new painting, “To the Rescue (Argument III)”. Now, I’ve finally chosen a sketch for the work.

What a mess! Friends, maybe this is one of those quite rare occasions for you to see “scratches” a painter has initially made for his/her painting.

The three “scratches” below, quite messy indeed, are what I’ve drawn for my new painting titled “To the Rescue”. It is to be part of my “Argument” series.
With “To the Rescue,” the story goes:
A new terrorism just hit a busy street, which used a new queer, imaginary bomb named “freezing bomb.” The victims are frozen, and have to be defrosted soon. The rescue team has arrived, but its members are fiercely divided over how — a steam iron? A fire burner? A chisel and a hammer??

You see, I make many such scratches to begin the whole process of painting creation, and struggle over what should come where. Then, once I come up with a scratch I really like, I make an esquis of it, and then —-

なんというゴチャゴチャ！ みなさま、これはひょっとすると、稀な機会でございます。絵描きが新しい次作を考えている時に描く「スクラッチ」を目にできることは、滅多にございませんのでね。

下の3枚のスクラッチも、実にゴチャゴチャですが、私がこれから創作しようとしている”To the Rescue” （救出に）という絵画のための、手掛かりのスクラッチなんです。私の “Argument” というシリーズの次作です。
そのTo the Rescueの「お話」は、次のようなものです：
賑わうストリートで新型のテロが発生、実に奇妙な想像上の爆弾を使ったものです。「冷凍爆弾」というものですね。被害にあった方々は凍りついてしまったので、すぐに回答する必要があります。救出隊が来たのですが、救助方法で口論に。スティーム アイロンにすべきか、バーナーにすべきか、ハンマーとノミにすべきか？

絵画を創作するプロセスの最初に、こういうスクラッチをいくつも描きます。そして、どこに・何を配置すべきかを、アレコレと悩みます。そして好きなものにたどり着くと、エスキースを描き、そこから ・・・
