2 hr-experiment of model-space interaction / 2時間デッサンで、モデルさんと空間のインタラクションに関する実験

This one is from a drawing session of March 21st.
Unlike croquis, we worked on the same pose, same model,
for 2 hours.

As you see, the model turned her head left, slightly upward —
gave me the impression that she was seeing something happening
somewhere up there to her left.
Of course, in reality, there was nothing but the ceiling up there,
but I supposed she was seeing a vision there and tried to
create some interaction between the model and the left space.

こちらは、3月21日のデッサン会から。
クロッキーの場合と違って、同じモデルさんの同じポーズに2時間を費やします。

ご覧のとおり、モデルさんは頭部を左に向け、微妙に上向きです。
左上で、何かが起きているかのような印象を受けますね。
もちろん実際には、そこには天井があるだけなのですが、
その印象を活かして何かがそこで起きているという感じを出しました。
それにより、空間とモデルさんの間のインタラクションを醸し出そうと。

how I treated the two similar poses posted below on March 25.

The left image above was already shown on March 13 below.
I took a different stance for the right one above
and I put the model in a heart-shaped balloon of light blue.

I hope you see different treatments give two similar poses
very different atmospheres and implications.

上の2枚の20分クロッキー（背景は後で追加）ですが、
下の3月25日に紹介した似たようなポーズの2枚のクロッキーを、
どう処理したのかを示すものです。
上の左の画像は、すでに下の3月13日にお見せしたものです。
右側のポーズの方については、かなりスタンスを変えて、
モデルさんをライトブルーのハートの中に入れました。

同じようなポーズでも、処理を変えると雰囲気も（感じ取れるであろう）意味も
大きく変わってくることが、感じ取っていただけましたでしょうか？

So, why two similar croquis, both done in 20 minutes?

This is NOT what I intended — two similar poses were just “given” to me
at two consecutive croquis sessions.

To explain this “givenness”, allow me to describe how a croquis session
goes —
1) More than 20 artists, including myself, gather in the croquis room.
2) The model shows up, and takes her 6 poses, 20 minutes each,
on the modeling stage placed in the middle of the room.
3) The artists are not allowed to speak to the model — so they
cannot ask the model what pose to take. They simply draw what is given to them.

You see, at such a croquis session, none of the artists has the right to
ask the model what pose to take.
(I’m NOT blaming this practice at all — just imagine what mess would result,
IF 20 + something artists asked for poses they want —)

So, sometimes, in two consecutive croquis sessions, the
two different models can take very similar poses at similar angles.

How can I get over this problem? Well, with different treatments —
— I’ll show how I treated the two similar 20-min drawings above differently,
in my next post!

似たようなポーズの20分クロッキーを並べました。いったい、何のために？

もともと、私が頼んで似たようなポーズをモデルさんに取ってもらったわけじゃ、ありません。
連続した２回のクロッキー会で、この似たようなポーズが「登場してしまった」わけですね。

なぜそんなことが起きるのか、クロッキー会の現場の様子を説明しましょう ：

1) クロッキー室には、２０人を超えるアーティストたちが集まります。私自身も数えて。
2) モデルさんが登場、部屋の中央にあるモデル ステージで６つのポーズを順次とります。各ポーズは、２０分。
3) アーティストたちは、モデルさんに話しかけることが許可されていません。ですから、
「こういうポーズを」とモデルさんにお願いすることは、できないのです。とにかく、
モデルさんが取ったポーズを描くしかありません。

もうお分かりのとおり、こういうクロッキー会ではアーティストは、モデルさんに
「こういうポーズを」とお願いすることが、できないのです。
（それに不満があるわけじゃ、ありませんよ。２０人以上いるアーティストたちが、
それぞれ自分の求めるポーズを口にし出したら、どういう事態になるか ・・・）

ですから、２回の連続したクロッキー会で、似たようなアングルの似たようなポーズに
出くわす場合もあるわけですね。

この問題に対処するには、似たようなアングルの類似したポーズに、異なる処理を
施すわけです。
次回の投稿で、私が上の２つの似たようなクロッキーに、どのように異なる
処理を施したのかを、お見せしますね。

Of course, I could leave the original 20-min product as it was,
as shown below.

Yet it is my basic stance in drawing and painting to depict what the object / model
AND the space around it create in their mutual interactions.
(You know, no object can exist without “space,” which is then “curved” by the
object’s gravity.)

So, what interaction did I see in this particular pose and model?
Some sense of “rinsing away” —

これも、3月17日のクロッキーですが、後でモデルさんの周囲の空間に
色を塗りました。
もちろん、下の20分クロッキーをそのまま投稿しようと思えば、
それもできたのですが。

基本的に私の場合、対象となる物体やモデルさんと、その周囲の空間の
相互作用を描こうとするので。
（そもそも、ご存じのように、「空間」がなければ物体は存在できませんし、
物体があるとその重力が空間に影響しますよね）

ではこのポーズには、私としてはどのような相互作用を見たのか？
何かを「洗い流す」という行為ですね。

So, the flyer is done — the above is a “printed and scanned” image, so it’s dim.

This open lecture by Dr. Miranda Schreuers is scheduled for
2 pm to around 4:30 pm, Tuesday, May 28th this year.

Dr. Miranda was formerly with the German government’s
Ethics Commission on Safe Energy Supply, whose report
led the government to the decision to abolish the country’s
nuclear power generation.

The venue, Sendai Christ Church, is located at
the “Kasuga-machi” (春日町) intersection, where “Jozenji” (定禅寺) and
“Bansui” (晩翠) avenues cross each other, some 440 yards (400m) west
of the ”Kotodai Koen” subway station, Nanboku Line Subway.

ミランダ シュラーズ博士による この公開講演会は、
この5月28日（火）、午後2時から4:30頃までです。

ミランダ博士は以前、ドイツ政府の「安全なエネルギー供給に
関する倫理委員会」のメンバーを務められました。
この委員会からの報告は、ドイツ政府を同国の原子力発電の
廃止という決定に導きました。

会場の仙台基督教会は、仙台市の地下鉄南北線、
「勾当台公園」駅から西に400mほど、
定禅寺通りと晩翠通りが交差する「春日町」交差点にあります。

I joined another croquis session on March 17 — as usual, 20 minutes x 6 poses.

I seem to focus on the atmosphere of the space + model,
rather than the pure anatomy of the model’s physique or
his/her mere appearance.

Even with 20-min croquis, I try to create the sense of, say,
“lost in thought / imagination” for instance.

I hope this croquis makes you want to ask the model
“What’s on your mind?”

3月17日も、クロッキー会に行ってきました。いつもどおり、20分 X 6ポーズです。

私はどうも、モデルさん ＋ その周囲の空間が相対で作り出す
雰囲気に関心を向けるようですね。純然たる身体の解剖とか、
単純な容貌とかじゃなくて。

20分クロッキーのような場合でも、たとえば
「考え事にふけっている」感じを出したがるのですね。

このクロッキーでも、「何を考えてるの？」と
尋ねたくなりますでしょうか？

ずっと下の2月9日、この絵画のステージ１をお見せしました。
LGBTの皆さんを「非生産的」と呼ぶ差別に対する、抗議です。
それから数週間たっておりますが、本作の作業をやめたわけじゃ、ありません。

Below on March 7, I showed the “lost” flip side of this flyer.
Now, the flyer is currently under proofreading.

Here it is, and I hope many will find Dr. Miranda’s lecture inspiring and helpful.

As you see, the flyer’s design is nothing special — what the lecture is about,
the date and place, a map, an introduction to the lecturer, etc.

Probably, some special things about it are:
– I made a color pencil drawing of the venue, Sendai Christ Church.
– I made a painting of a wind power mill in Germany, whose government
decided to go free of nuclear power. Probably you know that
wind has the greatest share in the nation’s power production from renewables
currently.

* Some pro-nukes say Germany has been importing a lot of electric power from
France — do not believe it. The plain truth is that the nation has been a net
exporter of power! Just look at:

下の3月7日、NO Nukeチラシの「失われた」ウラ面を紹介しました。
今日は、現在校正中のものを。

多くの皆様が、ミランダ博士の講演にインスピレーションと励ましを
受けてくださいますことを。

ご覧のように、このチラシのデザインには、特に目新しいものはありません。
何の講演か、その場所と日時、地図、講師の紹介などですね。

おそらく、特徴としては以下の2点でしょう：
– 会場である仙台基督教会を色鉛筆で描いたこと
– 背景のイラストを設けた。政府が原発廃止を決めたドイツにある
ウィンドファームのイラストです。おそらくご存じのとおり、
現在、ドイツの再生可能エネルギーによる発電量の中では、
風力が最大のシェアを占めていますよね。

* 一部の原発推進派は、ドイツがフランスから電力を大量に買っていると喧伝していますが、
それは誤りです。
単純な事実として、このところドイツは合計で見ると電力の輸出国なのです。

I worked on the space around the model in another 20-min croquis from March 3.
Please compare the image above with the one below.

This particular pose creates the sense that the model is
looking far into the upper left space, right?
So, that space can be left empty, since it is “space” anyway.
Yet that way, the croquis suggests no correspondence between
the model and that space, as you can see in the image below.

With the space colored with some crayon,
the image above shows some correspondence between the model
and the space — at least, I hope so.

やはり 3月3日のクロッキーなのですが、モデルさんの周囲の
空間に色を付けたものです。
上の画像と下の画像を比べてみてください。

このポーズだと、モデルさんが左上の空間の遠くを眺めているような
感じがありますよね？
この左上の空間をそのまま虚空にしておくことも可能です。
「空間は空間」なのですから。
でも、そうしちゃうと、モデルさんと空間の間に何の相互作用も
ないように見えますよね？下の画像のように。

上の画像では、空間にクレヨンで色を付けたことで、
モデルさんと空間の間に何かの相互作用があるような
感触が ・・・ 少なくても、それを狙って空間に色を
付けたのですね。狙いが効果を出していますでしょうか？

Another 20-min croquis from March 3.
This was the fifth pose of the day.

You see, I changed my drawing style a bit with this one,
after drawing four other poses.
I often try different styles at croquis sessions, to hopefully
find some effects new to me.

With this one, I used quick strokes to depict the dynamics of
the model’s pose — which created some “sense of snaky movements”.

Did I succeed?

その日の5番目のポーズでした。

ご覧のとおり、ここで私は描くスタイルを少し変えています。
既に4つのポーズを描いた後ですのでね。
私はクロッキー会では、違うスタイルを試すことがよくあります。
何か、自分にとって新しい効果を探るためですね。

本ポーズでは、素早いストローク（断線）を用いなした。
これは、モデルさんのこのポーズにある「ヘビのような
動きの感触」を表すためですね。

そうした動きの感触が、出ていますでしょうか？
