Yet another 20-minute croquis from October 21.
Again, later I added the oil pastel background to the 20-min croquis,
as an experiment to see how a background can change the atmosphere
of the same pose.

On October 21st, I joined another croquis session. As usual, 20 minutes x 6 poses.

I think I like this croquis, something I made on the reinforcement paper sheet
of the croquis book — so, I added the background in oil pastel.

10月21日、またクロッキー会に行ってまいりました。
いつもどおり、20分 X 6ポーズです。

クロッキーノートにある補強材の紙に描いたものですが、
自分では気に入ってます。そこで、オイルパステルの背景を後で
加えました。

Finished work for the no-nuke poster! / No-Nukeポスター用、フィニッシュ

Way below on September 24 and earlier, I showed five sketches for a no-nuke poster.

I got a request for yet another sketch, so here is a sixth —
The requester asked for something of a “plant motif”, so I put a dandelion,
shooting out of a concrete crack. Every time I see a dandelion like this,
I think of some apocalyptic imagery of “destruction and rebirth”.

After all, which of the six is to be finalized in the poster?
That is to be determined by 11:59 pm JST, Sunday, October 21st.

ずっと下の9月24日からそれ以前にかけて、No Nukeポスターのためのスケッチ5種類を紹介しました。

さらにもう1種類をご希望のリクエストがあったので、こちらが6つ目のスケッチです。
リクエスターの方は「植物モチーフ」をご希望だったので、タンポポにしました。
コンクリートの亀裂から生えだしているタンポポです。
そうしたタンポポを見るたびに、私は「破壊と再生」という
黙示文学的イマジェリーを思い浮かべるので。

結局、どの図案が採択されるのか？
それは、10月21日の日本時間で午後11:59までお待ちくださいませ。

Way below on September 10, I began and posted a preliminary version of
this oil pastel painting,
but I didn’t like it somehow —
So, I’ve decided to start the whole thing over.
Here is Stage 2 of that startover.
I’ve also titled it “Bed of Photons”.

ずっと下の9月10日、このオイルパステル絵画の暫定バージョンの制作を
開始し、お見せしました。
でも、自分ではどこか気に入りません～～
そこで、最初からやり直すことにしました。
こちらが、やり直したステージ２です。
Bed of Photons というタイトルにしました。

This is Stage 5 and work is close to the finish —
— one problem with a painting like this is when to call it “finished”.
I could work more on the details, but that might ruin the soft, enigmatic
atmosphere of the picture.

So, I’ll finish this off soon.

するのか？
もっと詳細を描くこともできるのですが、それをやっちゃうと

I have been working on many other ones since then, keeping this one at a halt for so long.
Now, at long last, I have resumed working on this.

それ以来、他の作品やクロッキー、実験など多数やってきたので、本作は中断していました。
ようやく、再開しました。

The first oil painting I made, back in 1988 / 私が初めて描いた油彩画、1988

Here is just another 20-minute croquis in wax pastel with the background added in another 20 minutes later in oil pastel.
This time, I painted the model rather “quick and coarse”, to make it fit in the “quick” background of oil pastel. (Before the croquis, I make a plan of the style and touches.)

Actually, this is the same model of another croquis shown below on September 30.
You see, different poses and styles make the same person look like different persons.

こちらは、クレヨン（ワックス パステル）の20分クロッキー、もういっちょ。やはり、後で20分ほどでオイルパステルの背景を加えています。
今回は、「素早く描いた」オイルパステルの背景に合わせて、モデルさんも「素早く、荒っぽく」描いてます。（クロッキーの前に、スタイルやタッチを考えておくのですね）

実はこのモデルさん、下の9月30日のと同じモデルさんです。描画のスタイルやポーズが異なると、同じモデルさんが別人物のように見える例ですね。
