I know well this looks like a child’s painting, and that’s what I want in this —
I was inspired by Alexej von Jawlensky, whose “face paintings” look childish
but invite the viewers into deep meditation.

Just a 120-min drawing / ただの120分デッサン

I’m just back from another drawing session. It was “120 minutes of
the same pose” today.
So, here it is — not the whole: My sketchbook is larger than my scanner,
so here is “most” of the drawing.

The model, in this particular pose, looked like she was staring somewhere distant. So, I wanted to create an impression like that.

たった今、デッサン会から戻ってきたところです。
今日は、同じポーズを120分間。
ご覧のとおりです。ただし、デッサンの全体ではありません。
私のスケッチブックが、スキャナーより大きいのです。
ですから、今日のデッサンの「主要部分」ですね。

このポーズでモデルさんは、どこか遠くを見つめているような様子でした。
そういう印象を創り出そうとしたのですね。

I’m an amateur male soprano, and I love singing Vincenzo Bellini’s famous
“Casta Diva”. I’ve been wanting to make a painting of a phrase from the aria,
“spargi in terra quella pace” (peace all over the earth).

I just began the work, with wax pastel (crayon) and a board of paper.

私はアマチュアの男性ソプラノでして、ヴィンセンツォ ベリーニの有名な
Casta Diva という曲を歌うのが好きです。そのアリアの spargi in terra quella pace
（全地球に平和を）という個所をもとに、絵画を創作したいと願っていました。

その作業を始めたところです。イラストボードに、ワックスパステル（クレヨン）で
始めました。

St. Francis and Birds, just begun / 描き始めたところ

This is a famous saint, and I’m named after him.
So, I just began this pastel painting of him and birds.

As you see, I was inspired by Alexej von Jawlensky,
one of my very fav painters in history.

聖フランシスは大変有名な聖人で、私の名も彼から来ています。
そこで、彼と鳥たちのことを絵にしようと思いました。

ご覧のとおり、私が大好きな歴史上の画家のひとり、
アレクセイ フォン ヤウレンスキーからインスパイアーされています。

“No, Dad, please don’t! — 2”, just begun / ピース２、描き始め

I designed “No, Dad, please don’t!” below (June 30) to consist of two pieces.
Shown on June 30 is Piece 1. I just began working on Piece 2.

As I said back then, this is a protest painting.
This last April, the Nagoya District Court of Japan gave a “not guilty” judgment
to a father who raped his own biological daughter over and over again.

This court ruling is something beyond the wildest imagination of almost any decent citizen, so I have to protest it.
Rapes must be prohibited, not just in public spaces but in offices, schools,
social welfare facilities, families, etc. as well!

While Piece 1 focused on the victim’s agony and screams,
this Piece 2 covers her surroundings — the insane court, the criminal (the father),
etc.

下の6月30日に紹介した  “No, Dad, please don’t!” は、2つの絵画で構成したいのです。
下の6月30日のものが、ピース１． そして今、ピース２の制作を始めました。

本作はプロテスト絵画で、
今年4月、名古屋地裁で、自分の遺伝子上の娘をたびたびレイプしていた父親に、
無罪判決が出ました。（詳しいことは、下記参照

この判決は、ほとんどの良識ある市民の想像を超えるもので、プロテストすべきですね。
レイプなんて行為は、公的空間だけじゃなく、オフィスであろうが学校であろうが、
福祉施設であろうが、家庭であろうが、してはいけないことですよね。

ピース１では被害者の悲痛と叫びに焦点を絞りましたが、
ピース２ではその周辺、つまり法廷や加害者（父親）をもカバーしたいのです。

Just a 10-min croquis / 単なる10分クロッキー

This is a 10-min croquis (quick drawing) from a drawing session held this April.
Nothing much — just another “figure croquis”, i.e., a quick drawing to capture the
shape of the model.

Usually, croquis is meant for that — capturing shapes quickly.
Yet with 20-minute croquis, I usually try some experiments — using
“unusual” drawing media like wax pastel (crayon), felt-tip markers, etc. for instance.
With 10 minutes, however, I have no time for an experiment.

So, before every croquis / drawing session, I think and decide what I’m going to do
— for instance, “I’ll try felt-tip markers today”, or “I’ll experiment with ball-point pen
scratches this time.”

これは単なる10分クロッキー（速写画）で、4月のデッサン会で描いたものです。
何も、大したもんじゃありません。要するに10分間でモデルさんの形態などを捉える
「人物クロッキー」です。

多くの場合、クロッキーというのはそれが目的ですね。形態を捉える練習。
でも私の場合、20分クロッキーでは何か実験をやらかします。
たとえば、ワックスパステル（クレヨン）やマーカーといった「珍しい」画材を
使ってみるとか。
でも、10分だと、そんな実験をしている時間がありません。

ですから、クロッキー会やデッサン会に行く前に必ず、どういう方針で行くのかを
考えて決めています。
たとえば、「今日は、マーカーを試そう」とか「ボールペンのグシャグシャで描いてみよう」とか。

“Azalea Way”, done / 完成

I showed Stage 2 below on June 20.
I finished it off — then I found the sky over the horizon was so large
it distracted the watcher’s attention off the motif, the azaleas.
So, I cut off much off the sky.

As I said below on June 20, the actual azalea way was a short one.
I wished it had extended to the horizon.
Then, over the horizon, where should it take us??
Somewhere above this world, I wish!

下の6月20日、ステージ２を紹介しました。
それを完成させたのですが、見てみると地平線の上の空が大きすぎて、
モチーフであるはずのアザリアから、視線がそらされてしまいました。
そこで、空の上部を切り取りました。

下の6月20日にも申しましたが、実際のアザリアの道は短いものでした。
それが地平線まで続いていたらなあ、と思いました。
そして地平線に達したとき、そこからどこへ向かうのか？
そこから、この時空を超えた世界へ行けたらなあ ～～
そんな願いです。

80 minutes with a model in constant slight motion / 微妙な動き続けるモデルさんとの、80分間

This is an 80-min drawing from a drawing session of June 23.
Some of you might think art modeling is easy — just stay seated for 80 minutes.
That’s not it!!

Even while you are comfortably seated, your arms, fingertips,
head, upper back, etc. are tempted to move.
For instance, it is certainly not easy to keep your head in the same position,
while the thing actually tends to look down.

This model had her first experience of art modeling and
had a hard time keeping the same posture. She was actually
in some constant slight motion.

So, I had to catch her posture at one particular moment and
drew it out of my memory. (^o^ ;;)

これは、6月23日のデッサン会から、80分デッサン。
皆様の中には、アート モデルなんて簡単だ、80分なら80分、ただ座ってりゃいいんだから、
なんてお考えの方もいらっしゃるかも。
実は、そうじゃないんです！

一見すると心地よさそうに座っている場合でも、
実は両湾や指先、背中の上部、そして特に頭部は絶えず位置をずらそうとするものです。
たとえば、頭部を正確に同じ位置に保つのは、決して容易なことじゃありません。
意識的に同じ姿勢を保とうと努めないと、頭は勝手に下を向いてしまうものです。

このデッサンのモデルさんは、この日が初めてのアート モデル
体験でした。同じ姿勢を保つのに、苦労してらっしゃいました。
体が絶えず、かすかに動いていたのですね。

そんなわけで、ある一瞬の彼女の姿勢を記憶しておき、
記憶からそれを描かねばなりませんでした。　(^o^ ;;)
