Over here in Tokyo, the hydrangea season is over — yet they certainly left in me some massive illusions of “flowers transcending into some higher forms”.
So, as shown below, I started this brand-new pastel painting.

Another ballpoint pen drawing from June 24th.
This one I did in 15 minutes.
In such a short time, the ballpoint pen’s coarse lines prove their coarseness.
The issue for the artist is how to use this coarseness —

同じく6月24日のデッサン会から、ボールペンのクロッキー。
こちらは、15分です。
こういう短い時間ですと、ボールペンの線の荒っぽさがよく分かりますね。描くものにとっての問題は、どうやってその荒っぽさ利用するか。

On June 24th, I joined a different drawing session — 120 minutes of the same model and pose.
Actually, I made two drawings in the 2 hours — 90 minutes and 15 minutes. The remaining 15 minutes, I spent as “water breaks”, since it was so humid and warm that day.

I just tried what I could do in 90 minutes with a tri-color ball-point pen.

6月24日、種類の異なるデッサン会に参加しました。同じモデルさんの同じポーズを、120分です。
実際には、私は90分と15分に分けて、2枚描いたのですが。残る15分は、当日あまりに高温多湿だったので、「水飲み休憩」としました。

とにかく、3色ボールペンだけで、90分で何ができるかを試してみたかったのですね。

Here is Stage 5 of the “tender, gentle oil pastel” attempt —
Stage 4 is shown below on June 25.
Not much difference, right? Well, please notice the background ultramarine is
deeper now, even in this scanned image.

I think this one will be done next time.

あまり変わっていませんよね ・・・ でも、背景のウルトラマリーンが、
深くなっています。この、スキャン画像でも、お分かりいただけますよね？

I joined in another croquis session on June 17th, as usual 20 minutes x 6 poses.
Here is one from the six.

I had with me some “powder pastel” then, so I rubbed the powders onto my fingertips,
and painted with my “multicolored fingertips.”
Just try — our fingers are built to draw precise lines with a tool, namely a brush, pencil, pen, etc., and drawing directly with fingertips make quite coarse lines.

So, I decided to go “De Kooningesque”.

6月17日もクロッキー会に行ってきました。いつもどおり、20分 X 6ポーズです。
その6点から、１つ。

この時私が持っていた画材は「粉末パステル」でした。それを指先に塗り付け、
紙に擦り付けたものです。
やってみれば分かりますが、指というものは精確な線を描くにはブラシや鉛筆、ペンなどの道具を必要とするもので、指先で直接描くと乱雑な線ができるものです。

そこで、「デ クーニング風に」描くことにしました。
