After working overnight, I joined another croquis session.
As usual, 20 minutes x 6 poses. Yet during the last pose, I fell asleep.
Nodding over the croquis book is certainly not a pleasant way to put yourself to rest.
It cuts shorter the 20 minutes to 5 or 6.

Still, I find interesting this result I made in the 5 minutes left.
I simply worked with a plain felt-tip marker of black.
I think my sleepy fingers made some funny curves and lines.

徹夜仕事を済ました後、クロッキー会に行ってきました。
いつもどおり20分 ｘ 6ポーズですが、最後のポーズの間に居眠り。。。
クロッキーブックの上で「こっくら こっくら」というのは、あまり
心地よい眠り方では、ありませんね。
20分のポーズが、5~6分になってしまいます。

それでも、5分で描いた結果がどこか面白い。
単なる、黒のマーカーで描いたものです。
眠っている指が、ふざけた曲線を描いたようです。

You know, every “drawing” medium has its characteristics. A ball-point pen is no exception, though many consider it as a “writing” medium, rather than “drawing”.

A tiny ball of metal rolling with ink creates very coarse and scratchy lines. And it is hard to change the line width. So, it is unfit for “fine, sensitive” lines. This means, however, it is a good drawing medium when it comes to making coarse, rough lines.
So, whenever you want to make a “squeaky, rampant” drawing, a ball-point pen might help.

いずれの「画材」にも、独自の特性があります。ボールペンにも「画材」として使った場合には、独自の特性がありますね。もっとも、多くの人たちは「筆記具」であって「画材」ではないと見なしているようですが。

金属の小さなボールがインクの中を転がるわけで、大変荒っぽい線ができます。線の幅を変えるのは、難しいですね。ですから、「微妙な、繊細な」線を描くには不向きですね。逆に言うと、荒々しい線を描くには、適した「画材」です。
ですから、何か「ガリガリした、はげしい」ドローイングをしたい場合には、ボールペンは役に立つかもしれません。

I joined another croquis (quick drawing) session on May 6th — as usual, six x 20-min poses. Here is one of my six.

I worked with a tri-color ball-point pen.
A tri-color ball-point pen usually has three colors, BLK, RD, and BL.
Since ball-points are commonly treated as a writing, not drawing, medium,
no other artist present at the croquis session used such a pen.
I, however, am nutty enough to try some “unusual” media in drawing and painting.

To draw the “almost parallel curves”  of BLK, RD, and BL in the background,
I removed the top cover of the pen and let my fingers hold the three color refills directly.

5月6日も、クロッキー（速写画）会に行ってきました。いつもどおり、20分 X ６ポーズです。
その6枚の中から、１つ。

3色ボールペンで、描きました。
多くの3色ボールペンは、黒・赤・青の3色ですよね。
ボールペンというものはたいていの場合、「筆記具」であって
「描画器具」とは見なされていないので、私以外にはボールペンで描く人は、
クロッキー会には見当たりませんでした。
私だけは、こういう馬鹿げたことをやらかすのが好きなのですね。

背景の「平行線に近い」黒・赤・青の線は、ペンの先端のカバーを取り外し、
3色のリフィルを直接指で持って描いたものです。

I occasionally design and make prints as well.
Yesterday, I designed and prepared a “quick” monochrome flier for a neighborhood church. It lacked the money to ask an “InDesign” designer to do the work, so it came to me, and I did it with MSWord and “cut & paste”, making all the drawings with my own hands.

I’m trying “automatism” in dyeing and painting a white shirt.
In short, I’m letting my hands work on a whim with no “set design” in my mind.
Maybe I end up with ruining the shirt — I know I’m running the risk.
Anyway, I’ll try and see what happens —-

白いシャツの染めとペイントで、「オートマティズム」を試しています。
要するに、なんら「決まったデザイン」なしに、手が動くままに染めてペイントすると。
あるいは、このシャツをダメにするだけかも。リスクは覚悟の上です。
とにかく、やってみて、どうなるか？？
