Dear friends,

Just below, I said I am currently preparing (learning and researches) for
a new anti-nuke website, which I plan to launch in several months.

This coming new website is in Japanese, not bilingual in English and Japanese.
Why??

Because there has been a strange division inside the anti-nuke movements and organizations in Japan. I’m not alone in pointing out this unwanted division.
Some other activists, authors, critics, etc. have also pointed that out.

What division?? Separation into an “anti-nuclear-power” camp and an
“anti-nuclear-weapon” camp.
In North America, for instance, it is easy to find organizations opposed to both.
Over here in Japan, many anti-nuclear-power groups chant “No to nuke power”,
but often do not shout out “No to nuclear weapons.” And vice versa.

This strange division is quite illogical to me — the historical reality shows us
that the “power and weapons” have been distinguishable from each other but never separable.

So, I intend to set the planned new website’s focus on this “inseparability”.
Since this is a focus chosen against the Japanese situation, the new website is to be
in Japanese.

I’d appreciate your understanding of this.

すぐ下の記事で私は、新しい反核ウェブサイトの準備（学びと調査）を、現在進めていると
申しました。数か月後のオープンになる予定です。

その新しいウェブサイトは、英日のバイリンガルではなく日本語だけになります。
なぜか？？

それは、日本での反核運動には伝統的に、奇妙な分離が見られるからです。
この不必要な分離について問題指摘をしているのは、私一人ではありません。
活動家や著者、批評家などで、この問題を指摘してらっしゃる方々もいらっしゃいます。

どういう分離なのでしょう？一言でいえば、「反原発」陣営と「反核兵器」陣営とに
分離しちゃっているんですね。
たとえば北米であれば、両方に反対している団体を見つけるのは容易です。
ところが日本となると、「反原発」を叫ぶ団体はあまり「反核兵器」を主張していなかったりします。
その逆もしかり。

この奇妙な分離は、私には事実に対応していない動きに見えます。
歴史上の事実として、「核発電と核兵器」とは区別こそできても、決して相互から
切り離すことはできない存在でした。

そこで私は、準備中の新しいウェブサイトのフォーカスを、この「不可分性」に合わせる
ことにしました。したがって、新ウェブサイトは日本語となります。日本社会に特有の
現象を問題にしているからですね。

皆様のご理解をお願いいたします。

理由は、次の２つです：
1) できるだけ絵画に専念したい

・ 社会全般からは核発電問題が忘れられてしまっている
という現状になってしまっています。
そこで、「核発電と核兵器の不可分性」にフォーカスした、
新たな反核ウェブサイトをここに始めたく願っております。
その準備となる調査などに、数か月かかると思います。

一見すると、上の 1) と 2) は矛盾する （  １） に専念するのなら、
そもそも 2) を始めるのはなぜか？）ように見受けられるかも。
でも、2) はビジネスではなく、あくまで一市民の voluntary な
情報発信として始めたいのですね。

このビーズ アクセサリーのビジネスは、本ウェブサイトを廃止した時点で、
終了といたしますね。

Dear customers,
I have decided to shut down this beaded accessory business in several months.

The reasons are twofold:

1) I hope to dedicate more work and time to my painting business.
– My painting website is at

I hope to dedicate more time and effort to it.

2) I intend to launch a new anti-nuke website (Japanese language).
More than 9 years have passed since the Fukushima Daiichi meltdown
began in March 2011. As I feared back then, today
– while those affected are still suffering,
– the society in general seems to have forgotten about the disaster.
So, in several months, I hope to launch a new anti-nuke website
focused on the “inseparability between nuclear power and weapons”.
I guess I need several months for learning and researches before
kicking off the new website.

At first sight, the above two might seem to contradict each other
— if I wanna concentrate on 1), why start 2) ??
2) is not meant to be a “business”. Rather, it is a citizen’s
voluntary voice.

When this beaded accessory website is shut down,
my beading business is over.

.「ラリエット」て？
本来は「投げ縄」ということで、アクセサリーでは
「留め金のない、長い1本の”ひも”」を指します。
首の周囲にまいて、ロング ネックレスのように使います。

ラリエットの長さ
日本でラリエットというと、全長90㎝前後のものが多いです。
これはおそらく、日本の女性の平均身長、155cm — 160cmを想定
したものでしょう。
つまり、
身長が165cmを超えるような長身の女性や
多くの男性には、
短すぎて使いにくい、ってことになりますね。

そもそもラリエットは基本的には、上半身の前面にまっすぐ長く垂らして、
立ち姿を美しくするものですから、短すぎるのは問題です。

オーダーメイドなら、お客様の身長に合わせたご希望の長さで作成できます。
お値段は？天然石をどの程度使うのかなどによって大きく変わりますので、
はじめにご予算をお知らせくださいませ。

ここに示した実例は全長が116㎝、サンプルなので天然石は使用しておりません。

What is a “lariat”??
You know what a “lariat” meant in old Western movies.
In the accessory world, it refers to a long “string” without a clasp.
Often, the user wears it around her/his neck, like a long necklace.

Lariats’ lengths in Japan
Here in Japan, an average lariat is some 90cm (35.4″) in length.
This is probably set to the average height of Japan’s women (155 to 160cm/
61″ to 63″).
In other words, an average “Japanese length” lariat is too short for
– ladies taller than, say, 165cm (65″)
– many men.

Basically, a lariat, hung straight down your front upper half,
is meant to make your standing posture more graceful.
So, a lariat too short for you does not make much sense.

An accessory’s price differs wildly, depending on how many of what
semi-precious stones you want in it!

To whom it may concern,

The SNS named LinkedIn does have a page carrying my name, Heeday Francis,
but I tell you visiting it does not make any sense.

What do I mean??
Before, I did not even know of this network called LinkedIn. Naturally, I did not sign up
to it.
Then, around 2012, someone made a page there under my name, Heeday Francis.
before I knew it.
Thus, I don’t even know the password — I am unable to erase the page!

So, visiting the Heeday Francis page of LinkedIn does not make any sense.

自分用のグリーンのクロス、作り直したもの
My own green cross, remade

自分用のグリーンのクロスが、壊れてしまいました。
アームをまっすぐに保つために、安全な細い金属の針を入れてあったのですが、
金属ですから錆びて折れたりするんです。
それが発生したので、作り直しました。

作り直した結果を紹介しますね。

My own green cross broke — I inserted a couple of safe needles to keep the
arms straight, but the needles, made of metal, decay and can break.
Mine broke, so I had to remake the whole cross.

So, what’s that “beaded thing” shown just below on April 19??
Simple — it’s an Easter egg.

I wanted to join the Easter service at a neighborhood church, and they
asked participants to bring an Easter egg with them —
so, I prepared this “li’l Easter egg pendant.”
Then, made as a pendant top, this “egg” is too small to be an Easter
present — at least, so I thought.
So, I made the “basket” for the egg too.

I, Heeday, have been calling my own painting workshop (atelier) “Atelier anastasia” for years — then, recently, I found out there is a cosmetic brand carrying the same name!
Though the cosmetic brand sent me no complaint so far, I do not like carrying a name that might confuse people.
So, today, August 30th, 2018, I have changed my atelier’s name to “Heeday Francis” plain and simple!
It’s only a name change — nothing else changed.

Since I switched to painting as my “main” business, my posts here have been infrequent.
Still, I do respond to orders and inquiries.

本日2018年8月30日、名称を単純に Heeday Francis （ヒデ フランシス） に変更しました。
名称だけの変更で、他には変更はございません。
