顔を隠す人物の周囲を乱雑な線が取り囲むと、なんらかのためらい？それとも、おそれ？ ・・・そんな感じが。

So, here’s another 20-min oil pastel experiment from August 7.
Anyone can have a “woolly” wakeup and the model played it well.
Coarse, scratchy lines of the oil pastel create some “woolly” feeling, I hope.

このところ、次々にコピーライティングの仕事が入ってきて、絵画やアクセサリーが進んでおりません～～
仕方なく、8月7日のオイルパステル実験を、もう1つ。
「もやもやした」目覚めというのは、誰にでもあり得ることですが、このモデルさんはそれを良く演じてくれていました。
荒っぽく乱雑なオイルパステルの線が、「もやもやした」雰囲気を醸し出してくれていると、思ってます。

Another 20-min oil pastel experiment from August 7th.
As you see, random curves in the background create the sense of “lost” — she doesn’t know where she is, just lost in sleep. (Of course, the model was intentionally posing like this, and she was doing a good job in that! You see, a model’s competency affects the works depicting him/her.)

8月7日のクロッキー（速写画）会から、やはり20分のオイルパステル実験。
ご覧のとおり、ランダムな曲線が背景にあると、なにか「行方不明」な感じが生まれますね。モデルさん、自分がどこにいるのかもわからず、眠りの世界で行方不明になっているような。（もちろん実際には、このモデルさんは意識的にこのポーズをしておられたのですが。上手なモデルさんで、実際に眠っているかのような演技をしてくださっていたのです。お分かりのように、モデルさんの能力は、それを描いた作品に影響します）

Lost in sleep —
So far, I’ve shown very scratchy experiments with oil pastel. To avoid giving you the impression that oil pastel is only for “scratchy” images, here is something I did in 20 minutes, at another croquis (quick drawing) session on August 7th.
You see, with some more time, I could have made quite a “conservative” painting. Oil pastel is not only for kindergarten kids. It is a painting medium that needs to be taken seriously.

今まで、大変荒っぽい画面のオイルパステル実験を紹介してきました。オイルパステルは「荒っぽい」画面にしか向かないという誤解を避けるため、「保守的な」クロッキーも紹介しておきますね。やはり20分で、8月7日のクロッキー会からです。
ご覧のとおり、もう少し時間があれば、「保守的な」絵画に出来たものです。オイルパステルは幼稚園だけのものではなく、もっと真剣な画材として扱うべきものですね。

Conservative —
If I had had 1 hour and (traditional) pastel, this would be a clear image of a “floating woman” — mysterious and enigmatic.
Yet 20 minutes and oil pastel I had —- and oil pastel is a medium that is quite clumsy with details. I need more and more experiments with it —-

（伝統的な）パステルと1時間あれば、この絵はもっと明確に「浮かぶ女性」となっていて、なぞと神秘を醸し出していたことでしょう。
実際には20分とオイルパステルだったのです。そしてオイルパステルはどうも、細部を描くのに不向きな画材ですなあ。もっと実験を重ねないと～～

Keep your feet up off the ground
Another 20-min oil pastel experiment from the croquis (quick drawing) session of July 24.
As you see, random curves can create the feeling of “messy”, while “rubbed” smooth surfaces incite some calmness. Combined, the two have created some sense of quiet uneasiness here, I hope.

ご覧のとおり、ランダムな曲線は「ゴタゴタ」を表すのに対し、「指でこすった」滑らかな表面は、何らかの穏やかさを醸し出します。その両者を合わせて、何らかの静かな不安感を作り出そうとしたのですが、うまく作り出せたでしょうか？

Another oil pastel experiment

Ha, ha, ha, I’m working on some signboards of a neighborhood church, and here is a “support” for one of the signs. I’ve got a thick wooden board cut into the right size, attached some hooks on it (so I can fix them firmly onto the right place once the sign is done), and applied layers of waterproof gesso. (^o^ ;;)
You see, before beginning to draw and paint on it, an outdoor sign needs to be waterproofed tightly.

ははは、近所の教会の看板を作りまんねん。その「支持体」でんがな。厚い木の板をサイズに合わせて切って、取り付け用の金具を取り付けて、防水ジェッソを何層も塗りましてん。 (^o^ ;;)
お分かりのとおり、屋外の看板だと、絵を描く前にしっかりと防水措置をしないとダメなのですね。

Oil pastel lines, unless they are rubbed on with finger tips or something, are somehow “scratchy” — I’m experimenting how I can take advantage of this “scratchiness.”
