下の21日の投稿で私は、どうもビキニの女性のモデルさんだと、広告ぽくなると申しました。

ただし、何も広告ぽい作品を作るアーティスト、特にポップアート系の人たちのことを非難しているわけじゃ、ありません。ポップアートにはポップアートの、存在理由がございます。

さらに他の絵描きさんたちの中には、高度な技術を追求する人たちもいらっしゃいます。
また他には、とにかくインパクトの強い作品を目指す人たち。
そして、少数ですが、見る人の想像力を刺激して、「ストーリーを呼び覚ます」タイプがいます。既存のストーリーを描写するのではなくて、個々の鑑賞者を刺激して各自のストーリーを思い浮かべてもらう、という人たちですね。

私自身も、最後のカテゴリーであろうとしてきました。下のクロッキーは大変ギコチナイもので、1980年代後半、私が描画を学び始めたころのものです。実に、ギコチナイですね。生まれて初めて描いた人体クロッキーの1つなので。
それでも、見る人の想像力の中に、何かストーリーを作り出さないでしょうか。そう願っています。絵を学び始めたころから一貫して、私は story inciter であろうと努めてきたのですね。”

Below, I said a bikini girl easily remind you of some ads.

Now, I’m not blaming those painters, especially of the “pop art” line, who make ad-like works. They have their raison d’etre.
Also, some others are insistent on technical mastery in their paintings.
Still some others strive for impacts in their works.
And there are a precious few, whose works stimulate viewers’ imagination and “incite some stories” in them. (not “describing an existing story” — rather, each viewer is invited to create his/her own story)

I have been wanting to be of the last category. Just look at the poorly drawn croquis below, which I made back in the late 1980s, when I started drawing. Yes, it is poorly drawn. One of my very first human model croquis. Still, I hope it incites some imagination and brings up a story in you. Since the very beginning of my career, I have been meaning to be a “story inciter.”

Another 20-min x 5-pose croquis (quick drawing) session today —
Today’s model was clad in a bikini — if you are a painter, you know this happens once in a while. And one challenge to a painter drawing a bikini girl is: how NOT to let the drawing/painting look like a beach ad!!

I struggled on this — just look at the two poses below, and they sure easily remind you of some beach ads, especially the one in dark ocher —  < “”(>_< ;;;)
In my next post, I’ll show you how I overcame it!!

また例によって、20分 ｘ 6ポーズの人体クロッキー（速写画）会 がありました。
今日のモデルさんは、ビキニを着てのポーズでした。絵を描く方なら、人体デッサン会では、時にそういう場合があることをご存じでしょう。こうした場合、チャレンジの1つが、そのクロッキーをビーチや水着の広告のように見せないことなんです。

今日は、そのために苦闘しました。下の2つのポーズなど、容易に広告ぽく見えますね。特に、オーカーのチョークで描いた方 ・・・ < “”(>_< ;;;)
次回の投稿では、それをどう克服したのかをお見せしますね。

I didn’t like the “CRAY-PAS(R) Experiment 2” I posted on Feb 2 below —
I want more “light transforming the body” so I am reworking on it.

もっと、「身体を造りかえる光」という感じが欲しいのですね。
そこで、描きなおしています。

(;;;  ^O^)   Ha, ha, ha, meaningless drawings —
I got some new drawing pencils today, and I always do some test drawing when I get new pencils, pastel, etc.
I got some oil pastel of Faber-Castell too, and, man, the brand does make lovely colors! I have used, for years, chalk pastels and color pencils of the German company, and I love them. I might switch from “CRAY-PAS(R) experiments” to “Faber-Castell oil pastel experiments” soon —

今日、デッサン鉛筆を何本か買ってきました。新しい鉛筆なりパステルなりを買うと、必ず試し描きをするのです。
Faber-Castell のオイルパステルも、いくらか買ってきました。試してみると、やはりこのブランドの画材は色がきれいですね。今までにもう何年も、このドイツの会社のパステルや色鉛筆を使ってきましたが、大変気に入っています。近く、「クレパス（R)実験」から「Faber-Castellオイルパステル実験」に代わるかも。

同じモデルさんのポーズをもう1つ。 やはりこのモデルさん、ポーズのとり方を知ってらして、とてもよかったです！

Whewwww —- at long last, I’m freed from some “academic” writing jobs. I’m no academic, but occasionally some people ask me to write something academic, and I don’t like it.  I’ve got them done, and it’s nice to be back what I’m really am.

Now, on Feb. 7, I joined in another human model crosuis (quick drawing) session, and the model this time was a very experienced one. I honestly appreciated her modeling.
Some of her younger counterparts, while posing, are just “standing/seated/lying” pure and simple, with no intention readable from the pose. With a model like this, I really have to “add” something — for instance, painting the background in multiple color strokes, though its is a “croquis.”
Now, this experienced one, took poses that spoke out her intentions. I just drew her as she was, and as I was doing so, I already knew what a full-fledged painting of the pose should look like.

Here is one, from the six poses she took.  The pose let me see a “shower of photons” —-

やれやれ —- しばらく「アカデミックな」文章書きの仕事を押し付けられていました。やっと終わらせて、解放されたのです。私はもちろん、アカデミックな関連の人間ではないのですが、ときにその種のライティングを押し付けられる場合があるんです。私自身は、好まない仕事です。やり遂げたので、ようやく本来の自分に戻ることができました。

で、2月7日、例によってクロッキー（速写画）会に行ってきました。この日は、モデルさんがとても経験を積まれた方で、私は大変描きやすかったです。
経験の浅いモデルさんですと、ポーズをとっている間に「単に立っている・座っている・寝転がっている」だけで、そのポーズで何を表現したいのかが分からない場合があります。そういうモデルさんですと、いろいろと描く側が手を加えないといけない場合があるんです。たとえば、多色のバックをつけるとか。クロッキーなのに！
ところがこの日のモデルさん、一つ一つのポーズから意図が伝わってきました。単純に彼女を描いていれば、もう何かが伝わると。クロッキーを描きながら、それをカラーの作品にすると、どんな感じの絵になるのか？それがもう、見えてきました。

その日の6ポーズから、1つ。このポーズは、私には「光子（フォトン）のシャワー」のように見えました。

Work in progress — still a long way to go

A long, rush writing job is killing me currently. Still, I have been searching for an old croquis as the starting point of “CRAY-PAS(R) Oil Pastel Experiment 3” —
Here, I think I’ve found it! I’ll use different methodologies of oil pastel painting for Experiments 2 and 3.

無理なライティングの仕事が続いているため、クタバリそうです～～　それでも、古いクロッキー（速写画）の中から、「クレパス（R) 実験３」用のクロッキーを探し続けていました。
これが良いと思います。実験2と3で、同じオイルパステルの異なる描法を試してみるわけです。

For Experiment 3

Friends, I have to make one correction, with an apology —-

In every article about my “Oil Pastel Experiments” below, I just assumed the developed-in-Japan oil pastel was named “Crepus,” but I’ve found out that the correct name is “CRAY-PAS (R)“. The name is a registered trademark of Sakura Color Products Corp.
Looks like the name is coined from “crayon” and “pastel.”
The name has been quite common in Japan’s kindergartens, so I just wrongly assumed it’s a common Japanese noun!

みなさま、お詫びと訂正です。
下の「クレパス実験」に関する記事のすべてで、私は単に「クレパス」とだけ記していました。
ところが実は、「クレパス」というのは （株）サクラ クレパスさんの登録商標なのでした！ 昨日、発見しました！
したがって、今後は 「クレパス(R)」と記しますね。
お詫び申し上げます。

日本の幼稚園などでは、あまりに広く使われてきた名称であるため、普通名詞だと思っていました！
